I probably need to work on my blog title game as that is quite dull but a descriptive one. It’s also ten days overdue. But better late than never.
My goal for this year is to read 36 books, and I’ve already read 14. Two were finished within April, but I’m going to count them for ease of reporting. For the moment, that puts me at 39% of my total goal and four books ahead of “schedule.”
I won’t stop reading just because I hit my goal, and it feels good to be reading so much!
What did I read?
I’ve read 4,420 pages so far this year. And the contents of those pages are summed up with the following charts via The Storygraph.
Twelve of the books I read were adventurous; four were dark; three were reflective, mysterious, funny, or emotional; and two were considered tense, lighthearted, or challenging.
The. majority are adventurous because my top genres I’m currently reading are fantasy and science fiction. I’ve long considered adult SF my “home” reading genre, but I have eclectic reading tastes. They often skew towards potential comps when planning to query a novel.
I also read queer books, but those may or may not be adventurous. I read young adult and I write young adult. I just plain enjoy middle grade.
Half of the books I read for the “official” first quarter of 2024 (not the extras I’ve included due to a late blog post) were written either by Ursula K Le Guin or N.K. Jemisin.
I was reading Le Guin’s Hainish Cycle since I’d never done so before. I started with Rocannon’s World, followed by Planet of Exile, then City of Illusions, and finished with The Left Hand of Darkness. The remaining of the series may show up later this year or another year. I’ve decided to move on with my mountainous to-be-read pile before continuing the cycle.
