Short Story Round-Up #112

I had some interruptions in September for posting stories. There’s fewer stories this month in this round-up, but that means you can read through them even faster!

(In)finitum, by Vaughn Roste was published at Wyldblood Flash Fiction in August.
What if you had all of time to see all of time?

Translunar Travelers Lounge published Duet of Tears and Laughter by Jo Miles in August.
A story of two towns, sisters by reflection, and how even when they cannot touch, they affect each other.

How to Lose to Death by Priya Sridhar was published at adventitious in August.
This line is perfect: “Death is dangerous when sober.”

Word Without Borders published A Failed Journey by Aura Estrada
Translated from the Spanish by Mónica de la Torre

A young girl resists her family’s attempts to idealize a trip to the United States. (CW: Fatphobia. Also see the context and resources)

Generic State University Pivots to Dark Academia by Kristen Koopman was published at McSweeney’s in September.
As a proud state school alumn (with multiple degrees, training, and employment) this is excellent!

Otherside published

This Is C(lone)-Pop be Lia Lao in June.
This takes parasocial relationships to a new level. Also made me think of “It Doesn’t Matter Why” by Silversun Pickups

The Homeowner’s Bride by Ayida Shonibar in March.
I love a haunted house story.

LAST CALL by Corrie Haldane was published at Crepuscular Magazine in August.
I feel like this scene could take place in any number of alien invasion movies. But it hits the right note regardless.

Diabolical Plots published in September:

Everyone Wants to be a Part of Sasha by J.N. Bilse
This embodies the feelings of wanting to be a part of the popular kids in such an extreme way. And how one feels when they realize they dodged a bullet.

“One Heart” by Annika Browne
I thought the theme this week was mothers, but it’s really grief. What a beautiful, thorough representation of loss.

Drowning Pool by Jacqueline West was published at Small Wonders in September.
A poem about how we cover up things.

Inner Worlds published I Haven’t Felt My Grief by Bleh 👅 in 2025.
Grief is hard to processing. It takes time and sometimes it is easier to process someone else’s than our own.

Lurid Parts by Maya Ysabel Ng was published at The Deadlands in May.
Another story about Mothers and death, grief, and more.

Worlds of Possibility published The Last Adult Superstore: A Story by John Wiswell.
Porn or just adulting?

I hope you enjoy these fourteen (14) stories!
