Short Story Round-Up #106

In January, I posted 19 short stories and poems. Miss any? Here they are gathered for your reading enjoyment.

kaleidotrope published:

Godling, Runner, Thief by Avra Margariti in 2025.
Beginning the new year in a good way with an Avra Margariti story. Like all her stories, this one is beautiful.

“Dali Dancing” by Gretchen Tessmer in January.
Some days I just need some poetry.

Take Flight by Dan Peacock in January.
Dan always writes the most heart-wrenching of stories.

Crepuscular Magazine published

Passenger of the Weyward by Anna Madden in 2025.
A poetic microfiction.

Bandit Behind Bars by Katie Dee in 2025.
I really felt like I knew where this was going, but I did not. I laughed at the end.

The Deadlands published:

Miles To Go Before I Sleep by Beth Goder in 2025.
This is yet another beautiful story. Section 7 broke my heart and gave me chills. Sometimes I think there is something wrong with me that I call these stories that center death beautiful.

The Ghost of Cerrera Orbital Station Makes Herself Known by Laila Amado in 2025.
How will you know the ghost of Cerrera Orbital Station?

Inner Worlds published

In The Vanguard by Chloe Smith in 2025.
What does it feel like, to fly through space as a ship in search of a New Earth?

They Fear Our Open Hair by Sabahat Ali Wani at Inner Worlds in 2025.
This is a multi-read story.

Linger Just a Little by V. Astor Solomon was published at 100-Foot Crow in 2025.
(Sorry for disappearing last week. That feels pertinent to this story.)

A beautiful poem.

Small Wonders published:

Wolves by Julia Rios in January.
End the week on a laugh! This is a fun poem.

Speaking for Those With Obsidian Tongues by Wendy Nikel in January.
I don’t normally post reprints, but since this isn’t available from DSF and I love Wendy’s writing, here you go. I loved this stone gods, unearthed and let go.

Your Mom, The Space Sailor by Pam Yve Simon in 2025.
A mom will not leave hear child. She becomes an astronaut.

You Hope, Through Shivers and Sweat by Elou Carroll was published at Haven Spec in 2022.
I love how I’m not sure if the end is the end I think.

Wyldblood Flash Fiction Fridays published Please Remain Calm by Joachim Heijndermans in 2022.
This is a little bleak to end the weak. It feels like the augments aren’t necessary for the story, in the end.

Bots All the Way Down by Effie Seiberg was published at Lightspeed in January.
It really is bots all the way down and I enjoyed the Easter egg.

Diabolical Plots published This Is Not a Space Kidnapping Fantasy by Priya Sridhar in 2025.
I loved the braiding of real life and touchstones with the fantasy.

Cassandra and the Changeling by R.J. Sterling was published at Apex in 2025.
A story of those touched by the supernatural.
